Looking for a Trainerize alternative? An honest comparison

Both give a personal trainer a branded client app. The difference is what that app is. Trainerize takes its own mobile app, already on the App Store and Google Play, and re-skins it with your branding in three tiers; the tier that gives you your own Apple Store listing also requires your own Apple Developer account and a registered legal entity. FitBrand's subscription plans put your branded app live on your own subdomain within minutes, with no store, no developer account and no company paperwork; a store listing is a separate project under Enterprise. Which one is right depends on how much being in the store matters to you.

The short answer

Pick Trainerize if…

  • You want a client app that is already on the App Store and Google Play, on every plan including the free one
  • You want your own Google Play listing at a published, self-serve price you can pay once
  • You are growing past a few hundred clients — their seat tiers run to 200 on Pro and past 1000 on Studio Plus
  • You want meal plans, macro tracking, video calls and Stripe payments inside the same product
  • You want your clients' Garmin, Fitbit, Withings and MyFitnessPal data flowing in

Where the client app livesOn the subscription plans: a branded web app published on your own subdomain (yourbrand.fitbrand.app). Your client opens the link and adds it to their home screen; it works on iPhone and Android. An App Store and Google Play listing is done under Enterprise, as a separately quoted project. The ABC Trainerize mobile app for iOS and Android, which their own site lists from the free plan up. A Custom Branded App re-skins that same app with your branding, at three levels: Pro, Studio and Enterprise.
Your own App Store listingNot part of any subscription plan. Under Enterprise we build a real mobile app published under your own listing, as a separate project whose scope is agreed in a call and which is quoted individually.Their branded-app page states the Pro-level app gives you your own Google Play Store listing but a shared ABC Trainerize Apple Store listing. Your own Apple Store listing comes with the Studio-level app, which is included with Studio-level plans.
Developer account and company requirementsNone. Because the app is not published in a store, there is no developer account to open, no company to register and no D-U-N-S number to obtain. A trainer working as an individual can sign up and go.Their own FAQ states the Studio and Enterprise apps require your own Apple Developer account, priced at 99 USD a year and charged directly by Apple, and that your business must be a recognised legal entity with a D-U-N-S number — trade names and branches are not accepted. The Pro-level app carries none of those requirements.
Time to go liveOn the subscription plans, the moment you save your logo and colour. No store review. The timeline of an Enterprise project is agreed in a call.Their own FAQ gives an average turnaround of 4 weeks for Studio and Enterprise apps once they have everything they need, depending on the quality of your assets, your response time and Apple's or Google's approval time.

The branded app: two different models

Both companies put a trainer's brand on a client app. The difference is what gets branded. Trainerize brands its own store app: the Custom Branded App takes the ABC Trainerize app and re-skins it, in three tiers. On their own site the Pro-level app gives you your own Google Play Store listing but a shared ABC Trainerize Apple Store listing; your own Apple Store listing arrives at the Studio level, included with Studio-level plans, and their FAQ states it requires your own Apple Developer account at 99 USD a year plus a registered legal entity with a D-U-N-S number (read on August 27, 2026). FitBrand brands a web app on your own subdomain, live in minutes; a store listing is not a subscription feature here but a separate project under Enterprise, quoted individually.

That structural difference has sides that favour Trainerize, and there is no point hiding them:

  • It is already in the stores. Their client app sits on the App Store and Google Play on every plan, including the free one. Ours is opened from a link.
  • The entry price is published. The Pro-level branded app is a one-time 169 USD fee you can buy yourself; with us a store listing follows a call and a quote.
  • The turnaround is stated. Their own FAQ gives an average of 4 weeks for Studio and Enterprise apps once they have everything they need.
  • Higher up, the app is included. Studio and Enterprise branded apps come with the subscription rather than as a separate app fee.

Whichever model it comes in, a store app carries its own costs. Trainerize states on their own site that their Studio and Enterprise apps need an Apple Developer account at 99 USD a year charged by Apple, and a business recognised as a legal entity with a D-U-N-S number; at the Pro level your iPhone clients still download through the shared ABC Trainerize Apple Store listing. On top of that there is a store review process, and every branding change is tied to publishing a release. The app you publish on FitBrand's subscription plans is a web app (a PWA) and carries none of those costs — but it is not searchable in the store either. Which model is right depends on how valuable being in the store is for your business.

Frequently asked questions

What does FitBrand offer as a Trainerize alternative?

FitBrand gives a personal trainer a client app with their own logo, colour and subdomain (yourbrand.fitbrand.app). It is not published in an app store; the client opens the link and adds it to their home screen, on iPhone or Android. That is why the time to go live is measured in minutes, no Apple or Google developer account is needed, no company registration is involved, and branding changes go live instantly. The interface works in 9 languages, and there is a free plan that never expires.

Where is Trainerize stronger?

In the store. Their client app is already on the App Store and Google Play and their own site lists it from the free plan up, so your client can search for it, install it and update it the way they do with any other app. Their branding tiers are published too: on their own site the Pro-level branded app is a one-time 169 USD fee on top of the plan and gives you your own Google Play Store listing, while your own Apple Store listing comes with the Studio-level app, included with Studio-level plans (read on August 27, 2026). FitBrand also builds a real mobile app under your own store listing, but does not include it in a subscription package: it runs as a separate project under Enterprise and is quoted individually. If being findable in the store is central to how you sell, Trainerize's model meets that directly.

Does FitBrand build apps on the App Store and Google Play?

Yes, but not as a feature of the subscription packages. We build a real mobile app published under your own listing on the App Store and Google Play under Enterprise; that is a separate piece of work whose scope is agreed in a call and which is quoted as a custom project. The branded client app you get on the Free, Pro and Elite plans is a web app (a PWA) published on your own subdomain and is not published in a store.

Is FitBrand's client app a real app?

On your client's phone it behaves like an app, with its own icon, its own splash screen and a full-screen interface, and it can send push notifications. On the subscription plans it is technically a web app (a PWA), which means it cannot be found by searching the App Store or Google Play — it is installed from a link. If you want an app that people find by searching the store, we do that as a separate project under Enterprise.
